Red Cloud Quillwork
Pahin (Porcupine) Quill work is an ancient Native American art of Plains and East Coast tribes. Quill work involves softening, dying and weaving quills onto leather or birch bark. While many quill workers switched to beads when beads became available, quill work remains an integral part of life on the Pine Ridge Reservation; an honored art form passed down through generations, with each family having their own distinctive design.
Your purchase supports the Art Center's efforts to encourage this important aspect of Native heritage and to recognize the Lakota artisans who keep the tradition alive.
