Carved Cottonwood Holy Family
Cottonwood Carving (Chan Kasku) by Leonard Yellow Horse
A striking piece from any perspective, the Nativity is represented in one piece. Leonard has used the contours and grain of the wood in a truly artful way. 14.5" tall.
The qualities of each piece wood dictate the form of each of Yellow Horse's carvings. He tells us these people already reside in the wood and he simply brings them out. The cottonwood is sourced from dry riverbeds on the Pine Ridge Reservation. The bottom is signed and dated 2017 with the artist's distinctive signature. Hand carved with details added using a torch tool.
Signed, original, unique Oglala Lakota Sioux Native American cottonwood carving.
Leonard's work was featured in Indian Country Media Network.
