Quillwork

Pahin (porcupine) quillwork is a traditional Native American art of Plains and East Coast tribes. Quillwork involves softening, dying and weaving quills onto leather or birch bark. While many quill workers switched to beads when beads became available, quillwork remains an integral part of life on the Pine Ridge and other reservations; an honored art form passed down through generations, with each family having their own distinctive design.
